My Reading Journey
My love of reading has truly come from my parents. My mom loved to read to me when I was a child. She would use different voices, make up fairy tales, and take me to the library at least once a week during the summer. One book that my mother loved as a child and she read to me growing up was King
of the Dollhouse by Patricia Clapp. I loved reading books about fairies and imaginary things come to life. When
we would go to the library, I would just browse through the children’s section
until I found something I was interested in. One series that I checked out
repeatedly was the All of a Kind Family series by Sydney Taylor. I would
read all the books in the series that our library had and then go back and
start over from the beginning. I loved
the illustrations of the girls in their dresses and the different adventures
they would have. My father had more of
an impact as I got into my older elementary and middle school years. Every
night before bed we would sit and read together, taking turns on each
chapter. We read the Anne of Green
Gables series, as well as The Chronicles of Narnia. As I got older, I enjoyed reading books about girls and young women. My favorite book became Little Women. I loved that they were such a close nit family that loved each other so much and felt a connection to each of them. Each book that I have read has shaped me into who I am today and led me to choose education as my career path.
What a wonderful experience to have had both your parents reading to you as you grew!
